Two injured in weekend wreck still at UVA.

Virginia State Police said that around 2pm on Saturday May 30, Sean Stanton of Moterey, VA was driving westbound on Rt 250 in his 1997 Toyota Tacoma truck, when he came into a curve, ran off the road, overcorrected and hit three motorcycles driving eastbound. Stanton was charged with DUI. The accident took place about 1.5 miles beyond the intersection of Route 629, not far from Shenandoah Mountain near the Highland CountyAugusta County line.

Two of the five people injured in the multi-vehicle wreck near Deerfield over the weekend remained hospitalized Sunday at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

The lead motorcycle in the group was driven by Marti Krupinski, 50, of Verona, who was driving a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He and his passenger Christine Hinkle, 43, were both listed in fair condition at UVA on Sunday.

The two motorcycles following that one were driven by females.

Krupinski and Hinkle were airlifed to U.Va. Medical Center in Charlottesville, two people were airlifted to Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, while another was taken by ambulance to AMC and were treated and released.

The motorcycle riders were part of a large contingent raising money for kids.

I have personally driven that section of road many times and it is an extremely curvy and dangerous mountain road. There are several places where you could fairly easily plunge off the side of a mountain if you are not careful. I’m surprised that there aren’t more wrecks on it.
