Many people who get bitten by dogs do not make a claim for their injuries because the owner of the dog is a family member, friend or neighbor.

You must remember that, if you are a victim of a dog bite, the owner of the dog most likely has insurance to protect him from the possibility of a dog bite case. Most homeowners or renters policies have coverage for dog bites, even if the attack occurred away from home.

This means that the dog owner will usually not pay anything when his dog injures somebody, thus avoiding an uncomfortable situation for both parties.

Dogs can be unpredictable animals and they do bite people. Sometimes a very sweet dog will have an episode and bite somebody unexpectedly. Perhaps the dog was in a bad mood or for some other unknown reason. The point is that bites do sometimes happen from otherwise good dogs.
