The Insurance Companies Will Stop at Nothing to Destroy Your Claim
Bill and Leandra Pitts were in a terrible car accident. They settled their claim for $50,000 which were the policy limits of the defendant. The Pitts then turned to Progressive, their own insurance company, for more coverage. The Pitts made an underinsured motorist claim with Progressive.
The Pitts attend Southside Christian Fellowship Church near Atlanta, GA. They attended a private support group in a fellow church member’s home. The group discussed topics that most people would want to keep confidential. Things like adultery and drug addiction were topics.
Progressive decided they did not believe their own customers. They hired detectives to join the church and attend the private group sessions. The detectives taped the group members talking about the most intimate details of their private lives. All done to discredit their client’s claim.
This story is almost beyond belief, yet Progressive ADMITTED to these actions. Progressive Corp. Chief Executive Glenn Renwick apologized for the use of private detectives.
“What the investigators and Progressive people did was wrong – period,” Renwick, head of the third-largest U.S. auto insurer, said in a statement. “I personally want to apologize to anyone who was affected by this.”
This conduct is outrageous but, unfortunately, not all that unusual. Victims of car accident cases must be ever alert. These companies will stop at nothing.
