Be careful driving this Thanksgiving
In a press release from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, John Saunders, director of DMV’s Virginia Highway Safety Office says
“Although we’re seeing a drop in roadway deaths, drivers still need to be vigilant, especially with the Thanksgiving holiday approaching. Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the deadliest times of the year on our highways. To reduce needless crashes and deaths, we urge motorists to slow down and allow additional time to get to their destinations.”
The good news is that traffic deaths have decreased by 203 so far this year compared to last year. But 19 people were killed and 768 people were injured during last years Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
There were 1,724 crashes during the 2997 Thanksgiving Holiday, and the top causes of accidents were speeding, failure to yield, tailgating, running stop signs and stop lights and improperly changing lanes.
