Accidents leave three dead in Pittsylvania County.

Alice Kates Adkins, 73, of Danville, Virginia and passenger Violet Lines Kates, 91, of South Boston (in southside Virginia) were killed when their vehicle, a 1995 Mazda Protégé, was struck by a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am. The wreck happened Saturday morning at the intersection of Old Richmond Road and Kentuck Road in Pittsylvania County at about 11:20 a.m., according to Virginia State Police.

Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Kates was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center, where she also died. Both were wearing their seat belts.

Later that evening, Michael McCurry, 43, of Pittsville, Virginia was killed in a tractor accident. According to State Police, McCurry was mowing next to an embankment on Route 773, when the 1947 Ford farm tractor he was riding rolled over and landed on him.
