GRTC driver faces charges in pedestrian’s death.

The driver of a Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) that struck and killed a state worker in downtown Richmond, VA last week has been charged with reckless driving.

Loucendia Reed Lambert was hit and killed by the GRTC bus around 8am on Wednesday at the intersection of 14th and East Franklin Streets. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lambert was 55 and lived in Duisputana which is in Prince George County. She worked for the Virginia Department of Health.

Under Virginia law pedestrians crossing the street in the crosswalk always have the right-of-way over vehicles making turns.

There has been a lot of controversy over this accident. Apparently the driver of the bus had received a ticket for recklessly driving her car about five months earlier. Also some people are blaming the bus driver for the death and others are saying the pedestrian should have looked more carefully before she walked.

The bottom line is that a person who was no doubt important to her family and community, and was by all accounts a kind individual is now dead. This is a very sad situation and hopefully there will be some resolution and just compensation for a seemingly wrongful death.
